Process: Natural
Altitude: 1,660 masl
Tasting Notes: Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, Blueberries

A comforting yet expressive natural from the hills of Ngozi. Notes of vanilla and milk chocolate create a soft, dessert-like foundation, while bursts of blueberry bring brightness and lift to the cup. The profile is round and approachable, but still layered with enough fruit complexity to keep things lively. Familiar in the best way, this is a coffee that feels both easygoing and carefully composed.

Roaster’s Description
Mubuga Washing Station works with more than 1,900 smallholder farmers across the Ngozi region of Burundi. Equipped with extensive fermentation infrastructure and hundreds of raised drying beds, the station has built a reputation for producing carefully processed coffees with strong clarity and structure.
Harvest typically runs from April through June, though Burundi’s landlocked geography means coffees often face a long logistical journey before export. This lot was processed through the BUDECA SIVCA dry mill prior to shipment.
The washing station itself carries an unusual local history tied to an engineer known as Rutumba, who oversaw the construction of the site in the hills of Gashikanwa. Stories surrounding his arrival, his difficult relationship with local villagers, and the isolated landscape where the station was built remain part of the folklore connected to Mubuga today.

Brew It Right
All coffees are sold exclusively as whole beans.
Grinding just before brewing preserves aromatics, structure, and clarity in the cup. For that reason, JONNY does not offer pre-ground coffee.
If you don’t yet own a grinder, consider this your sign. A proper grinder will elevate your coffee more than almost any other tool. (You’ll find a curated selection of hand grinders here.)
In the meantime, make friends with your local barista and ask them to grind the beans for your preferred brew method. They’ll understand.
Roast Date & Freshness

Freshness, With Intention
Every coffee lists its roast date. I am committed to offering beans at their optimal drinking window. Freshly roasted coffee needs time to rest:
• Filter coffee is typically best starting 7 days after roast.
• Espresso benefits from 10–14 days of rest for balance and stability.
Coffee remains vibrant for several months when stored properly, but for peak clarity and sweetness, I recommend enjoying it within 4 months of the roast date. To maintain high standards:
• Coffees that reach 6 weeks from roast are offered at a reduced price.
• Coffees that reach 12 weeks from roast are removed from inventory.
This ensures that what arrives at your door reflects the level of quality I stand behind.
