An elegant and beautifully layered Ethiopian coffee, combining the sweetness of baked apple and peach jam with delicate jasmine florals and a refined black tea finish. Bright citrus and subtle red fruit notes bring freshness to a cup that feels remarkably round and balanced. Complex yet approachable, with the clarity and aromatic depth that make washed coffees from Ethiopia so distinctive.

Roaster's Description

Kelloo Lalesa comes from the lush, high-altitude landscapes of Gedeb, in Ethiopia's Gedeo Zone, where coffee grows beneath dense, layered vegetation alongside false banana trees and native shade plants.

Produced by Alemayehu Tilahun and Origin Land Coffee, this washed lot brings together cherries from smallholder farmers surrounding the Lalesa Washing Station. Established by Alemayehu in 2018, the station was created to work directly with local growers and carefully manage coffee quality from cherry selection through processing.

The name Kelloo is used for coffees with a distinctive profile of yellow tropical fruits, florals, peaches and stone fruits, qualities that are beautifully expressed in this particular lot.

After hand sorting, the cherries are pulped using a traditional Agaarde disc pulper and fermented underwater for approximately 72 hours. The parchment is then washed, soaked and slowly dried on raised beds for 8–20 days. The result is a wonderfully complex coffee, balancing ripe fruit sweetness, delicate florals and the clean, tea-like elegance characteristic of exceptional washed Ethiopian lots.

Whole Bean Only

Brew It Right

All coffees are sold exclusively as whole beans.

Grinding just before brewing preserves aromatics, structure, and clarity in the cup. For that reason, JONNY does not offer pre-ground coffee.

If you don’t yet own a grinder, consider this your sign. A proper grinder will elevate your coffee more than almost any other tool. (You’ll find a curated selection of hand grinders here.)

In the meantime, make friends with your local barista and ask them to grind the beans for your preferred brew method. They’ll understand.

Roast Date & Freshness

Freshness, With Intention

Every coffee lists its roast date. I am committed to offering beans at their optimal drinking window. Freshly roasted coffee needs time to rest:

• Filter coffee is typically best starting 7 days after roast.

• Espresso benefits from 10–14 days of rest for balance and stability.

Coffee remains vibrant for several months when stored properly, but for peak clarity and sweetness, I recommend enjoying it within 4 months of the roast date. To maintain high standards:

• Coffees that reach 6 weeks from roast are offered at a reduced price.

• Coffees that reach 12 weeks from roast are removed from inventory.

This ensures that what arrives at your door reflects the level of quality I stand behind.

Returns & Refunds
