A bright and beautifully precise Kenyan coffee with the vibrant acidity the origin is celebrated for. Tart red currant opens the cup with a crisp, almost crunchy fruit character before giving way to the delicate freshness of sencha tea. As the coffee cools, juicy orange emerges, softening the acidity and bringing a rounder sweetness to the finish.
Clean, elegant, and wonderfully articulate, this is a classic Kenyan profile defined by exceptional clarity.
Roaster's Description
Kenyan coffees are renowned for their acidity, and Gathaithi AA stands out for the remarkable precision with which that acidity is expressed.
Originating in Nyeri County, in the heart of Kenya's central highlands, this coffee is produced by members of the Gathaithi Cooperative and processed at the washing station of the same name. Surrounded by volcanic soils and the cool climate of the highlands, the cooperative brings together more than 1,600 coffee producers.
In the cup, Gathaithi AA delivers the signature character associated with exceptional Kenyan coffees: clean, juicy, and precisely defined acidity, accompanied above all by a remarkable sense of clarity. Red currant appears first, bringing the bright, almost crisp acidity of fresh red berries. As the cup develops, the profile becomes more delicate, with sencha tea adding an elegant and refined character. Finally, orange emerges, transforming the acidity into something softer, sweeter, and increasingly juicy.
The result is a vibrant yet beautifully composed coffee that showcases the clarity and complexity that make Kenyan coffees so distinctive.

Brew It Right
All coffees are sold exclusively as whole beans.
Grinding just before brewing preserves aromatics, structure, and clarity in the cup. For that reason, JONNY does not offer pre-ground coffee.
If you don’t yet own a grinder, consider this your sign. A proper grinder will elevate your coffee more than almost any other tool. (You’ll find a curated selection of hand grinders here.)
In the meantime, make friends with your local barista and ask them to grind the beans for your preferred brew method. They’ll understand.
Roast Date & Freshness

Freshness, With Intention
Every coffee lists its roast date. I am committed to offering beans at their optimal drinking window. Freshly roasted coffee needs time to rest:
• Filter coffee is typically best starting 7 days after roast.
• Espresso benefits from 10–14 days of rest for balance and stability.
Coffee remains vibrant for several months when stored properly, but for peak clarity and sweetness, I recommend enjoying it within 4 months of the roast date. To maintain high standards:
• Coffees that reach 6 weeks from roast are offered at a reduced price.
• Coffees that reach 12 weeks from roast are removed from inventory.
This ensures that what arrives at your door reflects the level of quality I stand behind.
