Cranberry and red currant bring a juicy, vibrant acidity, while hibiscus adds a floral, slightly tea-like character. Clean and refreshing, with the kind of crisp definition that makes Kenyan coffees so distinctive on filter.

Roaster’s Description

This AA Top grade lot comes from Kamundu Estate in Kiambu, a 155-hectare coffee farm now owned and operated by Sasini, a publicly listed company with majority Kenyan ownership. The estate forms part of a long coffee-growing tradition in Kiambu, a region just outside Nairobi known historically for its large coffee estates.

Sasini places particular emphasis on its workers and surrounding communities, providing benefits including housing, early childhood education, union membership and guaranteed wages above the minimum. Together with Covoya and its customers, it has also supported the nearby Njenga Karume Primary School, including the construction of a computer lab designed to give students greater access to digital skills.

Kiambu offers excellent conditions for Arabica production, with iron-rich semi-volcanic soils, abundant sunshine and elevations reaching around 2,000 metres above sea level. Cool nights at these higher elevations allow the coffee cherries to mature slowly, helping develop the acidity and complexity characteristic of the region.

This lot undergoes the traditional Kenyan fully washed process. Selected cherries are pre-graded and depulped before fermenting in water tanks for 12–48 hours to remove the remaining mucilage. The parchment is then washed and graded through channels, where the densest beans are separated as the highest-quality lots. Finally, the coffee is soaked in clean water and sun-dried on raised African beds for two to three weeks, regularly turned and protected from moisture and intense midday heat.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1028/6550/2533/files/JONNY-MAME-Coffee-Kamundu-AA-Filter.jpg?v=1789750458
